What
are apprenticeships?
Apprenticeships are a high quality work based training
programme, they give you the opportunity to earn whilst learning new skills
and gaining knowledge and qualifications.
Who
can do an apprenticeship?
Anyone can take part in an apprenticeship as
long as you are not taking part in full time education.
GCSE’s are desirable for entry in to the scheme, although not essential,
as apprenticeships are not just based on academic achievement. Demonstrating
you keenness to work and learn also counts.
Apprenticeships are not for everyone, and you will need to decide
if you are able to successfully juggle work and study.

What
qualifications could you gain?
The apprenticeship scheme will lead to a National
Vocational Qualification (NVQs), Key Skills and a technical certificate.
NVQs
These are achieved through assessment and training in the workplace. As nationally recognised qualifications employers and academic institutions accept them. If you complete an apprenticeship you will gain a NVQ Level 2.
Key Skills Qualifications
All apprentices have the opportunity to improve their key skills in areas such as communication, team work, problem solving, improving own learning, information technology and number work
Technical Certificates
These focus on the knowledge, theory and understanding that underpin the
NVQ competencies, and they may also include wider aspects of the chosen
occupation.
