Insurance Scheme
New Charter operates a Tenants
Home Contents Insurance scheme (through Aviva). This is a
service that tenants can choose to take part in, and is highly
valued, providing as it does access to a service that may not
be otherwise available. The scheme reflects New Charter’s policy of extending access to mainstream
financial services, and provides the facility of weekly payments to the
rent account. We have recently responded to tenant requests and have extended
the scheme to allow tenants to take out additional accidental insurance
should they wish. An additional premium is payable for the extra cover.
To join the scheme, a tenant must have a clear rent
account and must maintain the account on that basis.
Cover starts from £6,000 cover for people over
60 and £9,000 for people under 60. The amount of cover can be
extended to a maximum of £25,000. The cost of joining the scheme
is 19.2p per thousand per week for the basic cover or 24p for the full
accidental cover option.
