Domestic Violence


One women in four reports experiencing Domestic Violence at some time in her life.

The Home Office have concluded that approximately every three days one woman dies as a result of Domestic Violence.

Domestic Violence includes all kinds of physical, sexual, emotional and financial abuse between people who are or have been partners, whether or not married and whether or not living together. This includes same sex relationships.

People experience domestic violence regardless of their social group, class, age, race, disability, sexuality and lifestyle. It can happen in the home, or in a public setting.

If you need to get out immediately contact the Housing Options Centre, 0161 331 2700, who will be able to assist with temporary accommodation and help assess your choices.

If its out of hours, please ring 342-2222 and a homeless prevention officer will contact you to arrange emergency accommodation.

If you are not in immediate need for rehousing, but may be in the future, keep these things in a safe easily accessible place:

arrow_blue Cash for taxi, bus or train
arrow_blue Spare keys (car, house)
arrow_blue Passport, driving licence, benefit books, or some other form of ID
arrow_blue Change of clothes for you (and children)
arrow_blue Plan of where you can go.

Housing Associations play an important role in housing people who have experienced domestic violence, some of the housing options available to the victim are:

Remaining in the home without the violent partner;
Leaving the family home on a temporary basis; and/or
Leaving the home permanently and seeking rehousing.
