Mutual Exchange at New Charter:
If you are
a tenant, you have the right to exchange your home with another tenant.
The other tenant may be a tenant of New Charter, a Local Authority, or
a Housing Association.
We cannot
refuse your request for an exchange without good reason, but you must
have our permission before you move.
Reasons for
refusing a request to exchange include:
 |
|
Either
tenant is under a Notice of Seeking Possession or Notice of Proceedings
for Possession, or legal proceedings have begun.
|
| |
|
|
 |
|
Either
property is specifically adapted or designed to help a disabled tenant,
and the new tenant does not need this support.
|
| |
|
|
 |
|
Either
property is too large or too small for either tenant. |
If either
tenant owes arrears of rent, we may give approval to a move, subject to
prior payment of the debt.
How to go
about the exchange:
|
We can help you find an
exchange by
placing your details on our
Exchange Register. Staff at our Advice Shops can then "match" your
details with other New Charter tenants.
[NB.: The Register contains the list of properties
that their current occupiers have agreed to them being published.
This list is updated every month.]
You can do an on-line search yourself
and/or browse the list of available properties in the register.
This Online Search is available from
the menus on your left or alternatively click the following link to
go there:
For more
information on the procedure for exchanges, contact our shops or your
Housing Management Officer.
